About Conor Back to top
Conor Daly is a second generation race driver, the son of Derek Daly who competed in Formula One and Indy Car racing for over a decade. No doubt inspired by his father's success, Conor started racing at the young age of ten, and in 2005 he was elected Junior Driver of the Year by Kart Racers of America after winning 19 races and two championships driving an American-built Margay chassis.
Starting Out Strong Back to top
In 2006 Conor switched to an Italian built Birel chassis and won three World Karting Association National events including the jewel of the WKA season, the Grand Nationals in South Bend, Indiana. Towards the end of the season (and on age waivers… he was just 14 years old), he became the youngest driver in the country to win a senior-pro kart race when he won the Pro Invitational Race at the TaG World Championships in New Castle, Indiana.
Conor drove a race car for the first time when he attended the Bertil Roos three day racing school in October of 2006. By 2007, he was driving for the factory Top Kart team, and won the Stars of Karting TaG Championship after having dominated the penultimate rounds in Schwano, Wisconsin by securing two pole positions, four fastest race laps and a first and second place ranking in the finals. He finished the season with five consecutive pole positions. In 2007, Conor also competed in the Skip Barber Racing Regional Championship, winning three races including a win on his debut in the series.
Climbing the Ladder Back to top
In 2008 Conor concentrated on race cars and had an outstanding season winning the Skip Barber National Championship and the Ontario Formula Ford 1600 Rookie of Year. During his European debut he won the prestigious Walter Hayes Formula Ford 1600 Trophy in Silverstone, England representing Team USA. Along the way he set three new lap records in Canada, and scored ten pole positions in three different classes.
In 2009, Daly finished third in the Formula Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear as a member of the Mazdaspeed driver development ladder system.
Conor currently leads the 2010 Formula Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear with four consecutive wins and five pole positions.
