Conor Daly Prepares for Barcelona
May 8, 2012
Conor Daly packed his bags back in early April for the opening race of the season in Barcelona, Spain this weekend. That was when he left America for Silverstone, England, for the final two days of six preseason GP3 test days. Since then he has been busy setting up his life in England and his second season of GP3 racing with his French based team, Lotus GP. This weekend's races will be part of the Formula One European events support bill along with the GP2 series.
Since the last test session on April, 11th/12th Daly has been training and doing simulator work as part of his specialized preparation for the first green flag of the season in Barcelona.
"The off season seems to have been particularly long this year and I just can't wait to get on track. I feel better prepared for a season than at any time in my career and I'm very much looking forward to returning for a second season now that I know most of the tracks" said Daly. "This is an insanely competitive series where you have to have a lot of things come together on race day to be successful. I'm ready for the challenge".
Daly has turned to a mainly aerobic form of training this season as he adds stamina to his natural strength. "My trainer was formerly with McLaren and he has me on a specific workout program and diet based on my natural size and weight. In addition I've done simulator sessions in France and England to build my visual knowledge of the circuits and also to more rapidly build my working relationship with my engineers", continued Daly.
Daly's team, Lotus GP is an all French team based just outside Paris. It is arguably Europe's best junior team having won the past two GP3 championships. Past drivers who have come through their development system include, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hulkenberg, Paul DiResta, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg.
All GP3 races will be televised live throughout the European continent on Sky Sports and will be available live on-line in America through SPEED2.
